The Dos and Don’ts of Creating a Wedding Website

The Dos and Don'ts of Creating a Wedding WebsiteWedding websites (or “wed-sites”) have become increasingly popular in the digital age. They’re a convenient way to share wedding news, photos, and more with your guests. However, when it comes to setting one up, there are some things you should do, and some things you shouldn’t do.

DO: Reflect your personality

Your wedding is about you and your partner, so make sure that both the ceremony and the website reflect your personality as a couple. Do this by coming up with a fitting website theme (that also fits with your wedding theme), and by using your engagement photos throughout your website.

DON’T: Use online RSVPs

As convenient as online RSVPs are, they’re less official and thus less binding. People don’t take online RSVPs as seriously, so you’ll run the risk of people showing up who didn’t RSVP, and vice versa. Instead, take the traditional route with paper RSVPS.

DO: Create a timeline

In order to keep people on time and organized, be sure to write up a timeline of the wedding ceremony, as well as other wedding-related events (such as a welcome party or rehearsal dinner). Include vital information such as the time, location, and dress code for each event, as well as transportation information for people coming in from out of town.

DON’T: Include exclusive events

The wedding-related events mentioned above should only be listed on your site if everyone is invited. So, things like bachelor or bachelorette parties should be kept off. This will prevent anyone from feeling left out or the possibility of awkward moments when someone comes to an event they weren’t supposed to go to.

DO: Update it after the wedding

Your wedding website isn’t defunct after your wedding. In fact, it’s a great place to upload your wedding photos for everyone to see. You should also use it as a place to thank everyone for coming, and to post any last messages you want people to see.
